Can You Stack Air Mattresses?

With the cooler fall weather fast approaching, I’m starting to think about the next time I will have to set up my air mattress.

However, if you’re not already thinking about it, you may be wondering if you can stack multiple air mattresses together to create a mattress that is much thicker than any single air mattress.

The short answer: Yes, you can stack two air mattresses on top of each other, as long as the mattresses have similar footprints.

This is an important question to ask if you’re planning to use several air mattresses in a room, or you’re just curious if you can stack them.

However, you should consider a couple of things before you attempt.

Things to consider before stacking air mattresses

The last thing you want in an emergency situation is to be forced to spend the night on the cold, hard floor.

You can prevent that by always having an extra air mattress.

Stacking two or three air mattresses together can provide a comfortable overnight sleeping solution.

However, not all air mattresses are designed to be stacked.

Before you stack in the extra mattress, there are some things you need to know.

1. Size

Before you stack multiple air mattresses to use as a mattress, it is important to consider the size of the mattresses.

Different air mattress sizes may make it difficult to stack them in a way that they all fit comfortably on top of one another.

So, keep in mind that you’ll probably want to match the size of your mattresses

If you have twin air mattresses, that’s no problem, but if you have queen and twin mattresses, you’ll want to stack the queen on top of the twin.

Furthermore, you may have to rearrange the mattresses at some point depending on the sleeping needs, and it is important to be able to do so without having to disassemble the stack all the time.

2. Height

Many people are unaware that mattress height should be taken into account before stacking multiple air mattresses.

Mattress stacks are the most popular kids’ furniture arrangement.

Not only kids but guests of all ages as well.

The height of the mattress will play a major role in determining the ideal mattress stack height for the kids to jump to bed easily.

The right overall height will ensure you and your guests reach the mattress more stably and comfortably.

3. Fully inflated

You can’t stack air mattresses without taking the time to properly inflate them first.

Why?

Because different mattresses have different thicknesses, and so inflate them to different firmness levels.

If you don’t inflate each mattress to the appropriate firmness, one of your mattresses will bend a bit more in the middle when stacked on top of the other

This will result in your mattress not being as comfortable.

4. Weight

The weight of the air mattresses is important.

If the air mattresses are too heavy, they may not be able to support the weight of a person and the other air mattress before popping.

Also, the number of people who will sleep on the mattress will also add considerable pressure to the mattresses, and can cause leaks.

So, that’s also something to think about.

Reasons why you can stack air mattresses

Air mattresses are a good alternative to regular mattresses.

And they are easier to stow away too.

This is because they can be deflated and rolled up easily.

So, if you are looking to buy one, you should also consider stacking them because of the following benefits.

1. Conserve space

If you are not able to afford a big bedroom, you should start thinking outside the box.

You can stack different air mattresses on top of each other and create a bed.

Stacking air mattresses is also one of the most inexpensive ways to make use of unused space.

Although they are designed for temporary use, having multiple air mattresses stacked on top of each other can be a great option for a permanent sleeping arrangement.

Stacking air mattresses can create more space for sleeping overnight guests or for guests visiting for a longer period of time.

2. Achieve good height

A good night’s sleep is the most important thing in the world.

It can help you feel like a million bucks or it can make you feel like you’re about to collapse.

The quality of your sleep can be greatly improved if you get a comfortable sleep surface to sleep on.

This can be just a matter of using a foam pad or something more elaborate like an air mattress.

However, the problem is that most air mattresses aren’t that high off the ground.

If you’re a tall person or a heavy person, this can be a big problem.

Stacking air mattresses is a great solution to increase the height when sleeping on it and give you the comfort you need.

3. Create kids play area

As children, we spent a lot of time playing in our basements, bedrooms, and living rooms.

This is where most of our memories are made, whether we are playing board games with family members or having sleepovers with friends.

Although spending time in these rooms can be some of the most pleasurable times of our lives, it’s important to remember that we don’t always have to play alone.

With the help of a specially designed air mattress, kids can build forts to play in with their friends.

Other options to keep air mattresses raised from the ground

There is one major drawback to air mattresses: they are infamously prone to leaking.

This can become a major issue if you need to use the mattress on a regular basis.

The good news, however, is that it’s easy to keep your mattress from losing pressure and deflating.

The key is to ensure your air mattress stays above the ground if your floor is the culprit.
